Los Pipitos is an organization of parents with handicapped children which is a major voice in the country for the rights of disabled people. Los Pipitos coordinates with governmental and non-governmental institutions, the media and the population of Nicaragua to raise awareness of their responsibility for the integration of persons with disabilities into society. Los Pipitos does not receive any government funds and relies solely on donations, and the selfless work of volunteers, many of whom are Nicaraguans who have very little income.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING IN NICARAGUA?

  • Make a donation. It costs our foundation $150 per month to pay for the teachers salary and $200 per month to pay for bus transportation for the students at the school.  Many of the students are confined to wheel chairs and live in communities with dirt roads, therefore if we do not transport them to school then they will not be able to attend.
  • Donate school supplies. Unfortunately we cannot rely on the local postal system, therefore we need you to physically bring the supplies down to Nicaragua with you when you visit. If you have supplies to donate then you can contact me about sending them down with somebody because we always have volunteers coming down.
  • Become a fundraising partner. Assist our foundation in raising monthly donations to continue their education. Contact me for assistance and information on fundraising partnership ideas.
  • Volunteer in Nicaragua now.  If you are planning an upcoming trip to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua then contact me about visiting the school and helping with the students.

Be sure to watch the Los Pipitos Pitaya Festival Video.
